What is PMP (Project Management Professional) Certification?

If you’ve spent time in project management circles, you’ve undoubtedly seen the letters PMP following the names of many well-known project managers. So what is PMP in project management, and what is a project management professional, exactly? Offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI), the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is recognized worldwide. It is highly regarded, as it takes considerable effort and skill to achieve, and is closely connected to the Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBoK) Guide. This certification is also known for its relevancy, since it must be renewed every 3 years, with a certain number of educational Professional Development Units required each year to maintain certification.
