Time to Get Creative! 5 Highlights From Wrike at SXSW 2022

The SXSW Conference & Festivals took place in Austin from March 11-20, 2022. It proved to be a fantastic opportunity for digital creatives to come together in person and encounter cutting-edge ideas in innovation, connectivity, and inclusivity.  From enjoying Lizzo’s powerful keynote to learning about collaboration and inclusivity in the future of work, Wrike was excited to participate in this seminal event to highlight our contribution to collaboration, creativity, and productivity at work. Here are our top highlights from our time at SXSW 2022.  1. Teams are ready to streamline their digital workspace  We were thrilled to welcome attendees to our booth at the Creative Industries Expo at SXSW to show teams how they could minimize tedious admin tasks, streamline operations, and refocus on creativity at work. Our onsite team provided customized demos of the Wrike platform to attendees, including specific use cases for creative and marketing teams. We also enjoyed chatting with attendees about the benefits of streamlining creative workflows with our powerful, built-in management tools and templates.  2. Launching our latest customer success story  While in Austin, it seemed fitting to highlight our latest customer success story featuring the professional American Major League Baseball club, the Texas Rangers. What better place to showcase one of our latest Texan customers than at Texas’ most prominent annual event!  With 300 employees and 15 different departments, the Texas Rangers realized the urgent need for a unified, digital work solution to establish clear workflow processes. Wrike enabled the Texas Rangers to standardize and organize their workflow intake, simplify time-consuming review and approval processes, and maintain real-time visibility into projects through accessible dashboards and tasks that could be shared across the entire organization. Enjoy their whole story here.  We were excited to share this unique customer success story that resonated with locals, sports fans, and creative teams alike.    3. Cementing that Wrike is the perfect fit for marketers and creatives  Wrike makes it possible for individuals, teams, and organizations to work with purpose every day, bring any idea to life, and exceed stakeholder and client expectations. At SXSW, this became even clearer when we spoke to marketing, brand, design, agency, and creative professionals.  Wrike’s collaborative work management platform allows high-performance marketing teams in any industry to streamline and centralize work, strengthen collaboration, refine processes, and enhance visibility. Wrike can support creative teams with the following use cases:  Design and creative workflows Digital and creative asset management Marketing campaign management  Marketing operations management  Marketing performance insights Formal proofing and approval processes Work intake management 4. Discovering key takeaways on the future of work  One of our favorite moments of the event was attending author, speaker, and data journalist Alexandra Samuel’s session: “Remote Inc: How to Thrive at Work Wherever You Are.” There are endless conversations around "work from home" and "remote work," but we learned it’s no longer about figuring out your home office set-up or battling Zoom fatigue. It's now about accommodation and adaptation.  Accommodation: If companies truly embrace flexible work, they must accommodate all kinds of working styles. In this competitive workforce, employers can't spend all their resources on perks to lure workers back to the office, as it’s no longer aligned with how everyone prefers to work.  Adaptation: Even fully remote employees need socialization and texture in their workdays. Employers need to trust their employees to manage their workloads in a way that makes them successful. Replicating “break room time” and movement like walks between meetings and social lunches is vital to keeping remote employees balanced and focused.  5. Making time for fun  At Wrike, we believe in working hard and playing harder. We were thrilled to welcome numerous Wrike customers and fans to our exclusive Happy Hour event, where we enjoyed great food, drinks, and even better company.  We also enjoyed engaging conference attendees with a special appearance by portrait artist Napkin Killa. If you were lucky enough to get a napkin portrait at the event, we would love to see it on social media! You can tag us on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or LinkedIn.  Teams choose Wrike for outstanding work management Our biggest takeaway from SXSW 2022 is that teams across industries and disciplines are ready for a powerful work management platform to simplify work, streamline processes, enable greater collaboration, and allow more space for innovation and creativity.  Discover why over 20,000+ customers in 140 countries choose Wrike by starting a free trial or scheduling a call for a quick demo.

Marketing Trends Leaders Should Know for the Future of Work – Insights from Wrike’s Reuters Workshop

The following year will prove to be a critical time for marketing teams as they look to re-engage with their core customers in a post-pandemic world. To do so successfully, however, teams will have to choose whether to go fully remote, stay in-office, or develop a hybrid work environment. Furthermore, teams will have to do more with less and leverage key technologies to keep up with the ongoing digital transformation of business.  To address these issues, Wrike recently held a Reuters Workshop roundtable to discuss how marketing leaders from organizations like Hallmark, Carmax, and others are preparing for the future of work. We’ve collected some valuable insights on the problems they’ve encountered so far and the solutions they’re exploring to address upcoming marketing trends. Hallmark Hallmark is seeing exponential growth at the moment due to moving towards an omnichannel brand from a primarily retail brand. However, a spokesperson noted that the key to navigating this growth comes down to staying organized – something new technology like work management solutions can facilitate. They also supported the continuation of remote work, as the removal of time-wasting commutes and other in-person obligations opens the door to better creativity and uninterrupted workflow.  Carmax A spokesperson from Carmax had been a proponent of remote work for years but hasn’t been able to support that aspiration fully until now. They are prioritizing building out a design team and work platform this year. To achieve their ambitious goals, they are looking to integrate an enterprise-level design system capable of maintaining consistency with their visual brand communications and promoting efficiency across their distributed product design and engineering teams. Prepare to hit the ground running In our Reuters Workshop, we sat down and talked with some of the best and well-prepared leaders about the marketing trends of the future. However, over a third of them expressed doubts that they'd achieve their 2021 growth goals, and stated that their martech stacks failed to meet the needs of their team.  Taking advantage of and leveraging the right technologies will become key to succeeding in the new age of digital collaboration. If you’re looking to uplevel your own teams and processes in preparation for a post-COVID era, start a free Wrike trial today.

E-mail Is Dead…Long Live E-mail! from Enterprise2Open

My session was not meant to be just a regular speech. I wanted to create a discussion and share the stage with other E2Open participants. That is why many of the slides in the presentation contain questions to the audience. Email Is Dead... Long Live Email! from Wrike I thought it would be a good thing to continue this discussion here, in this blog. Please tell me what you think about the role of email in the day-to-day life of business users. Do you think email should be merely replaced by the new tools? Is there an opportunity to leverage email and integrate it with the Enterprise 2.0 applications?

Our Favorite Highlights From Collaborate Day Two

In the blink of an eye, Collaborate 2021 is over, and we’re reflecting on a dynamic event jam-packed with insightful keynotes, fascinating roundtable discussions, and engaging executive panels.  We loved having you with us at the event, chatting with you at our virtual booths, and seeing your amazing selfies. Day two proved to be an exciting day, and we’re taking the time to reminisce on our favorite moments.  How we can become collaborative powerhouses  One of our favorite sessions of the entire event was from leadership expert Rob Cross on the different ways collaboration supports outstanding teams. With twenty years of research from over 300 organizations under his belt, we were all ears for Rob’s insight into what makes a team successful.  We were surprised (and a little shocked) to see how and why teams are breaking down. With real-life examples of teams cracking under pressure, there was plenty of fascinating insight into how to avoid these common blockers in your own organization.  How very different teams manage the creative process  It was amazing to witness some of the best creative minds in the business — like Nickelodeon and Monumental Sports — share their perspectives on the complexities of today’s work environment and what the best in class are doing to accomplish more with less. Hosted by Esther Flammer, Wrike’s Head of Marketing at Citrix, these creative forces discussed everything from the biggest challenges of maintaining creativity and productivity in digital, remote, and hybrid environments to using technology to increase efficiencies and create work-life balance in the modern workplace. We don’t know about you, but this is one we’ll definitely be watching back.  Bringing teams together with collaborative work management We loved hearing Sherrie Besecker, Digital Program Manager at Syneos Health, speak about how they bring together thousands of employees into one platform to connect, communicate, and work together in real time.  With hundreds of hours of lost time saved every year, Sherrie showed us how her company uses collaborative work management to manage critical, sensitive, end-to-end workflows that guarantee a great outcome for both internal and external stakeholders. Welcoming you all to Collaborate  Our favorite part of Collaborate 2021 was seeing all our attendees engaging with the platform, the sessions, and our virtual booths. You were the true highlight of the event!  We can’t wait to bring you to our next work management conference (hopefully, in person!), but in the meantime, you’re welcome to watch Collaborate 2021 back with our on-demand sessions. Whether you were there in real time and want to re-watch something or you couldn’t make the live event, head here for access to Collaborate On-Demand.  See you next year!

Wrike Collaborate 2021: Next-Gen Capabilities Set A New Standard For Collaborative Work Management

Digital transformation is in full swing as organizations continue to iterate on their work structure. Adopting new systems to meet remote work demands and maintain business continuity remain a necessity — albeit at a cost, like burnout contributing to The Great Resignation. Many teams thought that new tech tools would keep them productive and collaborative — which they have — but as it turns out, it was a band-aid solution to an evolving larger problem. Work is getting lost in unstructured solutions, like instant messaging, video conferencing applications, and the more rigid solutions previously in place, creating a dark matter of work with no system of record. From this, workplace complexities have increased along with employee burnout. Consider the following survey results: A Citrix survey found that employees use more than 10 applications daily, and as a result, 98% of business leaders admit their employees experience frustration A Wrike survey found that lack of engagement, employee burnout, and productivity issues were the top three workforce risks this year The new complexities of digital transformation are making it more difficult to do our best work. Wrike’s newest product updates are designed to reduce these workplace complexities, improve the employee experience, and enable organizations to keep pace with today's digital transformations. Never before has a work management platform been able to offer such flexibility, simplicity, security, and connectedness to provide natural support of workflows at every level of the organization: individual, team, department, and company-wide. This unique orchestration of workflows and processes enables entire organizations to work as one collective body. It’s time to move forward together in Wrike. Meet our 2021 Collaborate product updates Work Models Traditionally, Wrike users work out of tasks, projects, and folders, but in reality, work is more dynamic. Wrike is the only work management platform that has moved beyond projects, tasks, and spreadsheets to use the language of your work specific to the workflows that you have at hand. Wrike’s work structure can now natively support “user stories,” “campaigns,” “customers,” or any other custom entities you want to introduce. It can also support nested structure in those entities — for example, “user stories” can be part of “epics.” This allows users to perfectly model the work of any team or department in the company while allowing the whole organization to use one work management platform.  If you’re familiar with Blueprints and Wrike’s custom fields model, think of Work Models as next-generation templates that include tailored work items, with custom look and logic established by adding and configuring required fields, workflows, and automations. This new functionality makes layout, format, and behavior all customizable. Work Models give users a similar level of freedom, configurability, and flexibility to how teams work, regardless of their function, size, and scale. Work Models help to easily create templatized work items that can be account-wide or limited to a specific Space. Space admins and key team members can define their business function-specific work, while Wrike admins and owners can build items that make sense to everyone and can be used by multiple teams. Real work item creation is one click-away — either users pick the relevant Work Model from the familiar “big green plus button” menu or add new records via the context creation menu in their space. Goal management It's harder than ever for employees to see how their work contributes to team and company objectives and for executives to know if their employees’ work is aligned with company goals.  With remote work becoming more mainstream, executive leadership and teams find it more challenging to stay inspired and motivated. Not having proven results and metrics makes it more challenging to connect strategy, plans, and work in the future. Communication issues only add to the problem, with many employees losing sight of their shared company goals. Our goal management solution intends to solve all that. Goal management relies on the brand new Work Models concept introducing new types of work items like objectives, goals, key results, deliverables, and more. It embeds user-defined fields, automations, and schedules, and can be easily tailored to fit organizational or departmental needs. Moreover, it takes advantage of Wrike’s work hierarchy model and cross-tagging to track the activity’s progress and measure the connected goals attainment versus project-based or task-based work completion. Wrike’s Work Intelligence™ — powered by AI and machine learning — automatically measures risks associated with the objective's performance and keeps teams' work achievements on track. Our new goal management solution connects metrics from daily work to a company’s strategic objectives, providing real-time visibility into current and future goals and enabling the entire organization to work as one toward a common vision. What’s more, goal management leverages automated reporting and smart reminders to accelerate goal attainment. Additionally, Wrike integrates with other goal-measuring solutions and automatically incorporates key data points and success metrics within Wrike. With clear, real-time, top-down, and bottom-up communication, organizations can rally their workforce around a shared vision and proven success.  Workflow Engine Wrike has been investing in automation capabilities since our inception including request forms, Blueprints, approvals, automation engine bots, and more. These capabilities have proven to help teams within organizations like Walmart and Siemens scale their work and grow. Today, we’re elated to make automation even easier in Wrike! Workflow Engine is the latest in Wrike’s no-code/low-code capabilities and is a visual builder that enables employees to quickly and easily establish customized workflows — no matter how complex — to keep work moving effortlessly across the organization. It’s a simplified process that can support complex scenarios at scale but is easy to operate and runs quietly in the background, freeing up employees to focus on what they do best. With Workflow Engine, Wrike enables business users to define automation rules for Work Models of a specific type and distribute these rules as a part of a new work template. Wrike can automate actions based on templates and item types instead of tasks in a project space. By combining Workflow Engine with Work Models, you can use advanced triggers with specific workflows to scale this capability across your organization.  As an added benefit to Workflow Engine, your workflow doesn’t have to be contained in Wrike. Work can also start in your company’s employee portal and connect to Wrike via Workflow Engine. Furthermore, it’s not just simple “if this, then that” (IFTTT) with conditions and triggers, but rather an enhanced work routing mechanism that can have several levels of drill-down. Workflow Engine also helps to eliminate repetitive user manual data updates by connecting information flows between Wrike and third-party systems, like human resource records or IT systems, both ways. Once data is entered in one of the systems, Workflow Engine ensures it’s automatically replicated with Wrike and vice versa. Wrike for Service Teams Service-based teams such as brand marketing and human resources typically work cross-functionally and often need to address ad hoc employee requests, tactical projects, and sometimes mission-critical strategic initiatives. However, they often need to toggle between disparate tools that don’t connect, leading to a disjointed experience that is disruptive and inefficient. Meanwhile, requestors find it cumbersome to use traditional service request tools, which take them away from their daily workflow. Instead of using a dedicated tool to raise service requests, employees can now perform their daily activities and connect with service teams on a single platform, ensuring a continuous workflow so they can stay focused on work. Enter Wrike for Service Teams. With Wrike for Service Teams, we’re making it easier to unlock the power of your people and demonstrate the versatility of the platform. Regardless of the team focus, be it travel requests or IT-related incidents and issues, Wrike connects service requesters and service fulfillers within one platform with a unified user experience and interface. Wrike for Service Teams allows employees and service teams to align on their work, including service requests, projects, and strategic initiatives, within a single system of record. In doing so, everyone gets a unified end-to-end workflow, providing 360-degree visibility and intelligence into all projects. No more frustration using multiple tools — just more employee satisfaction. Wrike integration with ShareFile Organizations are increasingly working with external collaborators, which can increase the perimeter of security threats. This poses a larger concern to regulated and traditional industries along with enterprise organizations that have advanced security needs. The Wrike platform already has exceptional enterprise-grade security on top of 400+ integrations to cloud and on-premises apps. Today, we’re excited to add another to our list: Citrix ShareFile. The ShareFile integration is unique to Wrike and is part of our continued product development with Citrix, which will bring benefits that other work management solutions won't have access to. With this new integration, Wrike streamlines content-based workflows like RFPs and M&As by putting them in a dynamic work structure. This functionality enables all reviews, proofs, approvals, versioning, publishing, and more into one intuitive interface — which means ShareFile users can maintain efficiency and alignment on documents, all within Wrike. In addition, bank-grade security and permission management give full visibility and control over how customers, consultants, partners, and other stakeholders access sensitive data. To top it off, enterprise users can increase their work efficiency with document workflows and an e-signature integration. Space Level Delegation and User Types Enterprise-grade manageability has always been integral to Wrike. In fact, very few other work management platforms offer as much configurability and security control as Wrike. We know customers value Wrike Spaces as a popular feature to delegate management of team-related content and workflows to space admins and business users themselves. As a result, over the last year, we’ve continued to make Spaces more robust by adding reports, dashboards, calendars, etc. Moreover, space admins can now add and manage custom fields, workflows, and brand new work templates in Spaces themselves, like they used to do with the request forms. Today, we’re making Wrike stronger with Space Level Delegation and Customizable User Types. Space Level Delegation enables teams to democratize and organize their work without IT or Wrike admins and provides access to build and manage space tools to key team members. Customizable User Types allows Wrike admins and owners to duplicate or create new user types and easily customize permissions for more control and higher security. IT teams can benefit from application-wide action permissions and restrictions by setting up advanced controls with a few clicks. This ensures any external collaborators will follow the right security protocols and get the proper set of permissions based on their role. These capabilities improve the relationship between IT and business teams because IT can enable them to set up their Spaces and workflows while controlling different user types and permission sets. These product features are especially important for organizations with strict security and governance standards, along with agencies, professional services, and business teams that involve a lot of external collaborators. Wrike is the only work management vendor with this level of security configurability. With this release, Wrike customers will have both account- and space-level advanced security controls. Stay tuned for more At Wrike, our collective goal is that we remain the most robust, versatile, and intelligent collaborative work management platform that simplifies any team’s ability to collaborate and accomplish more. We’re confident these product updates solidify that position. Work Models in particular is one of our largest releases in nearly a decade, of which you’ll see benefits in future announcements. Get ready because Wrike’s new capabilities are planned for next year! In the meantime, visit the Collaborate 2021 site to watch session recordings and learn more. What Is the Best Way to Enterprise 2.0 Implementation?

The Enterprise 2.0 conference wrapped up in Boston a week ago. Now, it’s pretty interesting to read the conference impressions here and there. Bloggers and journalists made various conclusions about what the major goals, messages and results of the event were. Here are a few picks: “Broadly speaking, the conference is a vehicle designed to make sense out of the social networking landscape made up of blogs, wikis, customer e-mails, web sites and forums, as well as cloud computing, that is increasingly critical to how business is conducted.” -- W. David Gardner, InformationWeek “Enterprise 2.0 is not just an event, but one with actual content - and plenty of networking. Oh, if you want to hang around with the rock stars of the social web, they hang there, too.”  -- Paul Greenberg, ZDNet “The key message coming out of this conference? It's not about the deployment of technology, it's about adoption.” --Barb Mosher, CMSWire “The number UNO issue on the minds of this year’s customer conference attendees was: HOW THE >>>> DO WE DO THIS???” --Susan Scrupski, ITSinsider.  One of the best answers was given in IDEO’s presentation “How to build collaborative software that people will actually use,” or at least it was the answer that’s perfectly aligned with my thinking and doing. Ben Kepes liveblogged his impressions about this presentation at Cloud Ave, and I recommend you have a look at them. Susan helped to organize Enterprise2Open, where I initiated an interesting discussion on Project Management 2.0. Thanks to those who came and participated in the discussion. It was a valuable experience. I plan to expand my presentation during the upcoming UTD PMI Symposium. It would be great to meet you there and hear your feedback and comments. Going back to the “how” question, here’s my own summary: Use software tools that foster collaboration and are easy to adopt. Make sure that new tools integrate with your existing tools (integrate with e-mail) and that new processes build on the foundation of existing processes (evolution instead of revolution). Make sure that there’s a core group of adopters who regularly contribute data to the software and spread the best practices. Refocus IT efforts from installation of on-premise solutions to integration of on-demand solutions.

And the winner is...

In my previous post I encouraged all my readers to leave comments in order to compete for a free Enterprise 2.0 Conference. Now it is time to name the winner. Thanks to everybody who participated in my little contest. I liked all the answers and it was really hard to make the final decision. If readers and I had more time, it would make sense to vote for the best answer. Leveraging collective intelligence would be the best way to choose the winner. However, the Conference opens on the 9th of June and the winner has to be chosen as soon as possible. Therefore I will have to make this difficult decision on my own, and name the author of the best comment. Jim Benson is the winner! In his comment he touched a very important topic: successful implementation of Enterprise 2.0 needs cultural evolution. My congratulations, Jim! I hope you'll get the most out of the conference. I also have a $100 discount for the Enterprise 2.0 Conference entrance. I'll give it to the first person who leaves a comment on this post. Don't miss your chance!

It puts all those things into a nice package, where each item fits well with the other.  Besides, it’s an excellent relief from the daily routine.  A lot of innovative ideas get born when you mingle with your peers, customers and media folks. What I really like about the conference is that the organizers offer a great variety of networking opportunities. Besides the intriguing keynote speeches and workshops, you’ll be able to participate in special programs, including Evening in the Cloud and Enterprise2Open. Evening in the Cloud promises a lot for those who want to explore cloud computing and its benefits. “Email is Dead…” To Be Continued at Enterprise 2.0 Conference 2010

I recently submitted a presentation to be featured at the Enterprise 2.0 Conference 2010 in Boston. My session will be called “Popular to Ubiquitous: How to Skyrocket Adoption.” In this future session, I plan to develop the ideas that I previously mentioned in my “Email is Dead… Long Live Email!” slide deck. By the way, my “Email is Dead” presentation was marked as “Hot on Facebook” and placed on slideshare.net home page, since the slide deck was talked about on Facebook more than any other document on SlideShare at some point. I really hope that the talk about skyrocketing adoption will generate even more interest. You can find the description of my session proposal at the Enterprise 2.0 Conference site and leave a comment there. I would really appreciate your support and feedback!
