Drag-and-Drop Folders to Quickly Move Them

Published by Valerie  |  Monday, 27 October, 2008
In the best Wrike traditions, we keep bringing the convenience of using your favorite desktop software to the Web. A couple of weeks ago, we introduced a right-click context menu for the folders tree. Now we are introducing drag-and-drop for folders.

1) To move a folder:

Left-click on the folder, hold the mouse button and pull the folder to the place where you want to see it.

2) To include a subfolder in several folders: hold CTRL.

If you want one subfolder to be included in many folders, hold the “ctrl” key while doing the previous operation. The subfolder will stay where it was before the drag-and-drop, and it also will be included in the new place where you dropped it.

Tip to remember: When you put something in a shared folder, it automatically becomes shared as well. For example, if you move a project folder to a folder shared with your client, your client will see the project folder and underlying tasks.

Drag-and-drop of folders do not seem to work consistently in Firefox. Did you check the functionality in both environments?

    Hi Miniko,

We constantly test the application in many environments, including but not limited to the most popular ones - the lates versions of Internet Explorer and Firefox.

If you have any issues or questions, drop a note to support at team dot wrike dot com with details. Our support team will be glad to help you.

    Have a great holiday.

    A question for you ~

We have three different deliverables with a very similar creation process, but with different players. I defined the flow with the tasks with their duration and dependency for one of the deliverables. For the other two, rather than creating them from scratch, I just want to copy from the first one, edit and save them in the new folder.

I believe the instructions given above for copying a folder/task is for making the same folder/task included in other folders, and will let me copy and save as a different entity, correct?

Can I do that instead of having to create the separate folder/task from scratch?

    Hi Miniko,

You are right, the instructions above are for moving and for including in different view. They don't create duplicates.

If you need to use project templates, you can find more information in our help, at http://www.wrike.com/help/create_a_project_template

If you need further assistance, drop a note to our support team.

    Regards,

I would export the specific project to Excel. Change the folder name in excel and re-import.

Is there a way to change the order of the folders once they have been set up?
  • Published by Daria, Sunday, 07 December, 2008
    Faye,

Folders are sorted alphabetically in the tree view and chronologically in the gantt view, because the drag-n-drop is reserved for moving folders in the tree, so you won't be able to drag folders to change sorting, just like you won't be able to rearrange folders in the Microsoft Outlook or in the tree view of Windows Explorer. We’ve added your vote to this feature, as this is definitely something that we want to address.

P.S. Some of our users use numbers to change the order in the tree view. It’s not an “official” recommendation, just a work-around.

    Duane,
    That's a good tip!
    Thank you!

Ok. Thanks. I'll use the work-around in the tree view.

    DEPENDENCIES

I am able to duplicate a project with import/export via excel, but the problem is that I loose my dependencies.

Is there any way around this?
