Wrike Survey: "Overworking" Has Become Habit Forming
Pressured to do more, workers from executives to freelancers remain largely satisfied with work-life balance.
Among all respondents - including those that overwork and those that don't - 42.1 percent are satisfied with their work-life balance. Over 46 percent feel overloaded from time to time; only 11.5 percent often feel stressed and overloaded.
The survey gave an extremely interesting snapshot of people's working habits across various organizational levels. It was interesting to see that despite different responsibilities, business owners, executives, managers, team members and even freelancers have some common things in their work styles, for instance, admitting to feel the most productive in the morning hours," said Andrew Filev, Wrike CEO. Team members expressed more satisfaction with their work-life balance than representatives of higher organizational levels and also freelancers:
Team members: 50.8 percent
Executives: 40.5 percent
Managers: 36.8 percent
Freelancers: 35.5 percent
Business owners: 29 percent
The three leading factors that respondents said inspired their efficiency were a sense of responsibility (76.8 percent), a good mood (56.9 percent) and the potential for greater reward (42.1 percent). More than half stated that deadlines inspire productivity, as compared to 7 percent that consider deadlines to be a hindrance to efficiency. As many as two-thirds (64 percent) categorized themselves as "early birds," responding that they feel most productive before noon.
The biggest productivity hindrances included interruptions (40.5 percent) and procrastination (20.8 percent), with inaccurate planning, multitasking, and digital distractions such as social networking also cited.
