Just a couple of days ago, Dropbox announced the release of a cool new feature called “Chooser”. The idea behind this update is to facilitate sharing Dropbox files through other apps. Integrating with this popular sharing tool has been on our roadmap for quite some time, so we were overjoyed by the announcement! Right after the feature was announced, we jumped at the opportunity, and today you can already enjoy the convenience of attaching Dropbox files directly to tasks and folders in Wrike with a few mouse clicks.

The Dropbox integration lines up perfectly with the Wrike’s approach to file collaboration: You can access the most up-to-date file version without a time consuming re-uploading routine. Combine that with online file editing and Google Docs integration, and you have 3 powerful ways to relieve yourself from file version confusion.

How does it work?

In the task, right under the task description, click on the “Attach from Dropbox” link and choose the desired file. A built-in photo gallery and search function is particularly handy in finding the right file. Even if you update the file in your Dropbox every couple of minutes, your teammates will access the most up-to-date version in Wrike.

Guess Who? Now You Can See Who Is Editing Files in Tasks

Looks like it’s document management month in Wrike! Before you could say wow, we’ve added one more file management feature on the heels of our recently launched Dropbox integration. Now, when someone is working on an MS Office document right from Wrike without downloading it, you can instantly see who exactly is doing this. Your colleague’s name appears next to the file title in the task’s attachment list. Let’s see when it can be helpful for you. Looks like it’s document management month in Wrike! Imagine you finalized a report on the latest banner campaign and asked your colleague, Jack, to review it before you share it with your boss. For some reason, your boss suddenly wants to see it ASAP, and he also asked for a diagram that you haven’t prepared yet! In Wrike, now you see that Jack has this document open on his computer. It looks like he started reviewing it before he went away for an urgent meeting with a contractor, but you have no idea when he’ll be back … No worries, you can stop Jack’s session with the file by hovering over his name and pressing the “Unlock” button. The document is all yours now. Add and edit whatever you wish! When your colleague gets back to his PC, he won’t miss the update, as it’ll be reflected in the task’s activity stream. Can you imagine collaborating on your tasks and projects without regularly sharing and iterating on documents, images, spreadsheets and presentations? Neither can we! With plenty of options for attaching files to tasks (from your computer, Google Drive and Dropbox), we decided it’s high time to make document management in Wrike even handier. So starting today, you can enjoy the new look and feel of the file panel in Wrike tasks. While redesigning the file panel, one of the top priorities we had in mind was making it more compact, yet more visual: 1) Now, even if there are dozens of files attached to a task, they don’t push recent discussions out of the screen. You can see just the latest attachments, while the rest of the list is collapsed. And if you need to focus on files, simply click on the “more” button to the right of the attachment list. 2) In the expanded view of the file panel, all images have previews, so it’s much easier to spot the one you need. By hovering over a file, you can see its previous versions and attach a new one. Just like before, you can see who is editing a file (if this is an MS Office or OpenOffice document) and, therefore, avoid version conflicts. Providing a detailed task description is crucial if you want to get the task done right. Real-time collaborative editing of text and tables lets your team work simultaneously, quickly and accurately. But what if some important changes were made to the task description while you were offline? Wrike’s new change-tracking feature leaves no room for guessing games. At any time, you can see exactly what was added, edited or removed by each of the contributors, be that a single word, a table cell, or even a whole paragraph and a massive table fragment. The history of task description edits can be easily tracked in the Activity Stream. A click on the update notification shows you the details with all the changes underlined in a different color. Another hip feature helps you view the aggregated history of task description changes (1). And that’s not all: now you also get a chance to revert to an earlier version of the task description at any time (2). Thus, if someone occasionally edited the part that seemed perfect to you, you can restore it with a mouse click. Please note that the revision feature only works for the updates that were made in the past few weeks. Hurry up to check it out.
