Schedule a task

To schedule a task via email add wrike@wrike.com to the email recipients in the To, CC, or BCC field, and specify the start date and due date in the subject of the email in the following format: [MM/DD-MM/DD] (or DD/MM if you set another date format in your account). In the example below, the start date of the task is August 23, and the due date is September 15.

If the year is not specified in your email, the task will be scheduled for the current year. When you need to schedule a task for another year, you can explicitly specify it in the subject in the following format in square brackets: [MM/DD/YY-MM/DD/YY] or [MM/DD/YYYY]. If you have set the international format in your account, use [DD/MM/YY] or [DD/MM/YYYY].

Wrike only processes due dates set in the format mentioned above. All other ways to indicate the due date, such as "by Feb 20," "by Feb 20th," "by February 20th," etc., are not recognized as tags in Wrike and are treated as a part of the task name.

If you only specify the due date of a task and set it anytime past tomorrow, the task is automatically set as a milestone. You can use the following formats to indicate the due date in this case (depending on the date format set in your account):

  • "by MM/DD" or "by DD/MM"
  • [MM-DD] or [DD-MM]
  • [MM/DD] or [DD/MM]

If you indicate no due date in the email subject, the task will be processed according to your profile settings. The task can be marked as backlogged or scheduled for today. To check out and adjust your current settings, please click on the "Account" link in your workspace, then go to the "My profile" section and scroll down to "Email processing." Here you select the appropriate button and click on "save" at the bottom of the page.

If you choose to create backlogged tasks by default, you can still create one-day tasks by adding today’s date to the email subject. If you choose to create one-day tasks by default, you can add backlogged tasks via email by tagging your emails with [backlogged] in the subject.

Wrike helps you keep track of the task by sending automatic reminders about the task to the recipients of the email. So instead of reminding people about their tasks and deadlines, you can focus on yours.
