Elizabeth Harrin, the author of A Girl’s Guide to Project Management blog, and I picked a topic and exchanged guest posts, intending to bring you, our readers, some additional benefits of viewing the subject from two different angles. Please find Elizabeth’s writing below. You will find my piece at pm4girls.elizabeth-harrin.com.
It was not that long ago that a printed out Project Charter would be the start of project approval. The key stakeholders would physically sign the document, which would be passed in the internal mail between parties, finally returning to the project manager to update the version control for the document to version 1.0. She would then file it away for safe-keeping and proof that the initiation phase was over and that the real work could begin.

This is a guest post by Bas de Baar, the author of Project Shrink. This article originally appeared on his blog. The ideas of this post are aligned with my personal philosophy in many ways, so I felt that you would benefit from reading it here, on the Project Management 2.0 blog.
Aligning the means between individuals, project and organization is a Herculean task for any Project Leader. The means are the rules of the project. The way things are done.
Following are two strategies that can be used to align means. To provide you with some ideas. To start the discussion.

As you may know from my previous posts, I have submitted a session proposal to the Enterprise 2.0 Conference 2010. In my session, I’m going to develop ideas from the presentation “ Email Is Dead… Long Live Email!”
Recently, the conference organizers announced the opening of the Community Vote, which will play major part in the selection of the sessions that will be presented at the conference in Boston. I’m excited about the start of the voting, and I ask for your support. If you liked my “ Email Is Dead… Long Live Email!” presentation, I encourage you to vote for my proposal entitled “ Popular to Ubiquitous: How to Skyrocket Adoption.”

I was happy to see that you enjoyed my list of 33 Selected Blogs about Innovation, Project Management and 2.0. The post got over 220 comments and still counting! Some of you also pointed me to a few excellent resources that I didn’t mention in the general list. So in this post, I’d like to add another 11 blogs for project management innovators to my initial collection.

I’m excited to let you know that I was invited to join a group of influential bloggers and podcasters organized by the Project Management Institute! From now on, I am honored to say that I am a member of PMI's New Media Council.
This group was launched in October 2008 to help PMI and its members understand new and emerging trends in the project management profession, especially those being discussed in new media channels: blogs, podcasts, social networks, Twitter, etc. I believe this is an outstanding initiative that will help to bridge the gap between traditional project management techniques and opportunities for enhancing collaboration on projects that are offered by the development of the Web.

Not so long ago, I was interviewed by Ron
Holohan, MBA PMP. Ron is the author of the popular pm411.org site, which is
dedicated to all the topics related to project management: tools, tips,
methodologies, books, you name it. What I really like about pm411.org is that
Ron tries to look at the practical side of things and pays attention how the
material he blogs about can be applied to real-life projects, including his
own. Another great thing about Ron's site is that the author combines blog
posts and podcasts, so that many interviews are available in both written and
audio formats, and you can choose the one that's most convenient for you.
pm411.org should be the 34th in my Selected
Blogs list. I promise to write an update on my directory, as there are some
great suggestions in the comments
to the post. Ron's site will definitely be in the updated blogs collection.

What project management blogs do you read? I’ve assembled a list of blogs that give me substantial food for thought when I write on innovations in project management. The list also includes blogs that serve as great sources of information about Enterprise 2.0, new management methodologies, leadership, motivation, as well as useful project management tips you can use in your day-to-day job. I hope these resources will help you take a look at your management practices from another point of view or perhaps even push you to radical changes in the ways you manage your projects and teams. I wrote a short summary for every blog, so that it would be more convenient for you. Enjoy!

Chris Anderson builds an interesting case around the concept of the long tail of retail (The Long Tail: Why the Future of Business is Selling Less of More ). I will save you the joy of reading it, and I won’t recount his whole work here. I still wanted to share an interesting story about collective intelligence from his book. Anderson writes that, today, NASA often calls on amateurs to watch for specific asteroids that might be headed for Earth. It all started when amateur astronomers helped to make observations of Supernova 1987 that led to the confirmation of a key theory explaining how the universe works.

I recently submitted a presentation to be featured at the Enterprise 2.0 Conference 2010 in Boston. My session will be called “Popular to Ubiquitous: How to Skyrocket Adoption.” In this future session, I plan to develop the ideas that I previously mentioned in my “Email is Dead… Long Live Email!” slide deck. By the way, my “Email is Dead” presentation was marked as “Hot on Facebook” and placed on slideshare.net home page, since the slide deck was talked about on Facebook more than any other document on SlideShare at some point. I really hope that the talk about skyrocketing adoption will generate even more interest.
You can find the description of my session proposal at the Enterprise 2.0 Conference site and leave a comment there. I would really appreciate your support and feedback!
