Update tasks via e-mail

Published by Valerie  |  Monday, 08 October, 2007
It’s addictively simple and unites the initial task state and the next e-mail conversations.

Let’s say a colleague asks you to solve some issue. He CCs this e-mail to wrike@wrike.com. You can comment on the situation by using “Reply to all.”

Leave wrike@wrike.com among the recipients of the initial email, and the task description will be changed in Wrike. If you add files and pictures to the e-mail, they will be attached to the task, as well. If you include third parties in the To/CC fields, the task will also be shared with them.

So when you decide to go back to the task and work on it, you will see its updated state and save time on trying to recall what you discussed previously.

View a short demo about updating tasks via email

Stay turned. Later the rule will be also applied to replying to email notifications.

Hi. This seems like a very powerful feature ... but I'm new to Wrike and was unable to get this working. Could you add a visual walkthrough for this feature? Thanks!

    Mat,

we added a screenshot and short video to the blog post. Please note that Wrike updates the task if a person receives an e-mail with xsjlfAxsjlf/dpn and replies to that e-mail.

There are two things that we plan to add to e-mail updates pretty soon:
    - Replies to e-mails sent by a user (not received by a user).
    - Replies to Wrike notifications.

As of today, May 13, 2007 has there been any progress to email updates? It causes a great confusion when someone replies to an email notification and inserts the xsjlfAxsjlf/dpn thus creating an additional task! Now they have two tasks! Also, when a user replies to a notification and does not include xsjlfAxsjlf/dpn the manager gets and email response but it is not connected to the original task. Thus the manager loses some history. I haven't yet figure out a away update the task without editing the task manually and pasting the email into the details section of the task.

Duane, thank you for your feedback.
As Valerie states in her comment above, replies to notifications are not supported yet. Reply processing is supported in one particular case, described in the blog post above.
We totally agree with you that reply processing for notifications is important, and we are working on it. Stay tuned.
