Export Your Filtered Task Lists to Excel

We love getting ideas from our users on how we can improve Wrike. This helps us adjust our development roadmap to your needs and deliver the most popular requested features first.

Recently, our customers who manage big projects have asked about the ability to apply various filters when exporting their tasks from Wrike to Excel. We’ve made that happen, and starting today, you can export task lists, narrowed down by specific criteria, from anywhere within your workspace.

For instance, if you have some typical tasks that sometimes repeat, you might want to create a template for them. You can find these tasks by using the appropriate search criteria (1). Then, after you click on the Export button and choose Excel (2), Wrike will ask you whether you want to export all tasks or only the filtered list. Choose the second option (3), and that’s it – you get an .xls spreadsheet with the tasks you need to use as a template in the future. Obviously, this is just one example of the feature’s implementation, and we hope it will be helpful for you and your team, too!

    I note in your post about using your new filtered task feature for tasks that sometimes repeat (recurrent tasks).

    This brings up an important issue I'd love your dev team to solve: the way Wrike now handles recurrent tasks.

    Here are the two primary problems with the way recurrent tasks are handled now in Wrike:

    1. Wrike creates a copy of each task (so if you have a single recurrent task, and need to do something once a week for two years, it makes 104 copies of it).

    a. This means if you make a mistake with the task and want to correct it, the user has to edit/delete the same thing 104 times. EUCH!!!

    b. Creating a copy of each task unnecessarily clutters up a Wrike project folder. This makes it hard to scan your task folder and see what tasks you have coming up when you have a Wrike folder crammed to the brim with recurring tasks. ANNOYING and PAINFUL!!

    2. The current system forces a user to choose a finite number of times a task will reoccur.

    a. This means, if you have an operational task that must be done once a week/month/year *forever* then the user is *forced* to remember to recreate the task once you run out of tasks previously set (perhaps years ago) and *recreate the recurring task again*. This is horrible and essentially puts the burden on the back of the original task creator to set an additional task to recreate the recurring task again (which no one will do since conceptually, it’s such a pain in the neck).

    Here is the way to solve this problem, now, with great coding:

    1. Study how Outlook handles recurrent tasks/appointments (they handle it perfectly) and implement your new code
