Time tracking to improve accountability

Published by Valerie  |  Tuesday, 04 December, 2007

Update: the time-tracking feature has been released.

The next important improvement  that we are currently working on is the time tracking feature. This  feature will give you even better team accountability. Additionally, time tracking will help you to improve communications with clients, giving them clear time reports.

With the time tracking feature, you will be able to:

  • add time entries for tasks,
  • keep track of the hours spent on a task or a project,
  • quickly create reports and
  • see  what tasks people work on and how much time they spend on each task.

Do you have any preferences regarding the time tracking feature? We’ll consider implementing them with the next update.

Yes: an API enabling native time-tracking clients, so that I or someone else can write (at least simple) time tracking apps for my desktop and my mobile phone and my nokia n800 :-)

Sebastian, thanks a lot for your suggestion.

By the way, we already have the alpha version of API implemented for the released features of Wrike. We are rolling out our first beta integration in the next couple of weeks. When it is successfully implemented, we will publish the API. If you want, we can include you in the beta program. We are interested in feedback at this point because it is much easier to incorporate changes before API is published.

Well, yes, I'm interested in the beta program :-)

I can't promise that I give feedback (lack of time), but I'll try...

I am interested in being a beta-tester for the time- tracking project. I am currently looking for project management software. I have started to trial "Intervals". They score with their time-tracking and costing facilities. You score with your ability to use folders and price. (I am a small provider of professional services).

Your feature requests are welcome in comments to this blog post and at http://www.wrike.com/contactus.htm

P.S. The first version of time tracking feature is coming live in January.

I am currently evaluating wrike for my team. I may be missing this, but one feature we would love is the ability to view all projects and tasks from our blackberry's. I think it is great to be able to update on the fly and to receive emails updates too. But, the need to see a "master list" is imperative. If this exists and I have missed it, please let me know.

    Jesse,
Thank you for your feedback. Eventually, we will develop a better mobile client.

Love the time tracking direction! With your reporting features and folders, and the slick e-mail interface, Wrike is looking to be a viable solution for my medium professional services firm.

What would put your app into the no-brainer category is the ability to note "Estimated Time" for each task. This enables the worker to understand how much time was allocated to complete the task. This field would be separate from the hours entered. These two fields would be used to compare.

Ultimately a percentage of time used / available would be fabulous. So if 10 hours were allocated, and 5 were used we would see we should be 50% complete with the task.

    Thanks~

    Thanks for good words!

"Duration" field will support hours. When this feature is released, we will be able to develop estimated/actual comparison reports.

Yes. I second the request to support estimated hours.
I want to see a Scum burndown chart based on estimated hours/actual hours, and due dates.

acunote.com has a pretty nice one.
